Week 10 Recap

Week 10 is completed and the replay charges ahead. Every team has moved past the 50 game mark, and several have touched 60 already, so the half-way point draws near.

Washington had seen their lead dwindle down to 1.5 games at the end of last week, but thanks to the Indians winning three in a row from the second place A's have seen their lead expand back up to 4.5 games. Washington has made several trades recently and it is still too early to see if they will really pay off. Boston continues to flirt with .500 and has currently moved into the top half of the American League, just behind the Yankees, who can really hit, but just can't get on a winning streak. Cleveland might be on the come finally and has Chicago and St. Louis clearly in their sites.

Brooklyn had a down week last week but has righted the ship this week and is currently on a four-game win streak. Chicago has won eight in a row though and has definitely dug into Brooklyn's lead. St. Louis and New York are putting distance between themselves and the teams in bottom half of the National League but just can't seem to get much traction against Brooklyn.

Bill Terry still leads the NL in hitting (.438), ahead of Phillies teammates Chuck Klein (.411) and Lefty O'Doul (.401). Frankie Frisch is next at .398 and is currently riding a 21 game hitting streak. Johnny Frederick leads in runs (61), ahead of Kiki Cuyler (56). Terry and Frederick also lead in hits with 95, just ahead of Del Bissonette (93). Hack Wilson leads in RBI's (67), ahead of Bissonette (63) and Klein (59). Harry Heilmann has taken over the lead in doubles (21). Cuyler and Adam Comorosky have both reach double figures in triples with 10. Wilson still leads in homeruns (16), ahead of Wally Berger (15), George Watkins (14) and Gabby Hartnett (14). Jesse Hanes (9-1) continues to lead in ERA, ahead of Jumbo Elliott (2.20) and Dazzy Vance (2.22).

In the American League Mickey Cochrane (.420) leads in hitting, with Lou Gehrig (.419) and Joe Cronin (.416) in close pursuit. Cronin is also riding a 21 game hitting streak. Babe Ruth leads in runs (71), ahead of teammates Earle Combs (64) and Gehrig (54). Gehrig (93) and Cronin (91) are setting the pace in hits, and Gehrig also leads in RBI's (73) and head of Ruth (71) and Goose Goslin (56). Charlie Gehringer has taken over the lead in doubles (24), ahead of Cochrane (23) and Cronin (21). Gehringer and Goslin have both reached double figures in triples with 10. Ruth leads in homeruns (22), ahead of Gehrig (17) and Ed Morgan (15). Lefty Grove (13-2) is second in ERA (1.46), behind Rip Collins (1.33).

I have gone a little overboard with the number of sacrifice hits, so I need to tamp that back some, and I need to push the seal attempts more still. Complete games and saves are pretty close, but I do need to push complete games in the NL a little. As before, I am pleased with how things are turning out and I am expecting a wild finish as there is still plenty of baseball left to be played.

1930 World Series

https://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/1930_WS.shtml It's all come down to this. The 1930 Philadelphia A's were a little slow out of the chute in the regular season but they got going before mid-season and they easily rolled to the American League pennant. The 1930 St. Louis Cardinals were in a bit more of a dogfight in the National League, but they got healthy late and got hot with a month to go in the season and roared down the stretch to capture the NL pennant. These two teams were clearly the best in their respective leagues and now it was time for the fall classic. No multiple rounds of playoffs, just the two best teams going at it, and getting started quickly. The last day of the regular season was on a Sunday, the first game of the World Series coming on a Wednesday. A two-day respite will come in handy for both teams as they will meet in Philadelphia to get things started. Let's Play Ball, and may the best team win. Wednesday, October 1, 1930 ...

Introduction

I am going to do a replay of the 1930 baseball season using APBA Baseball for Windows . If you are reading this I am assuming you are familiar with the APBA baseball game, the concept of doing a full season replay, and baseball in general. If not, suffice it to say that, yes, I am going to replay an entire baseball season from 85+ years ago. APBA Logo I know that Google , like Facebook , has kind of queered itself in the marketplace with its misplaced privacy policies and its decisions to become involved in the filth of politics in general. However, I have used Blogger previously, am familiar with its quirks and foibles, and at free I can't beat the price, so I am going to stick here for now. There will likely be tweaks made to the blog layout, especially at the beginning, and as I figure what I think works best. The initial intent is to walk through and document my set-up procedures (what I call Week 0 ), if for nothing than my own benefit. From there I...

1930 AL and NL League Leaders (Updated)

Update: I must admit I really hadn't given much thought to pinch-hit homeruns, no-hitters, or hutting for the cycle when I started this, but they were events that occurred and were worth noting. And of course, I then neglected to include them in my initial publishing, so here they are:
