Week 9 Recap

Another week of outstanding performances, mixed in with several examples of relief problems with plenty of late and extra innings heroes and goats. Two trades took place this week, and one a huge one - Heinie Manush and General Crowder going from St. Louis (AL) to Washington for Goose Goslin . There are several trades cued up for next week as well as teams make adjustments as they preprare to enter the final two-thirds of the season. Heinie Manush Brooklyn finally had a week where they lost more than they won, but they still maintain a healthy lead while they watch the Giants, Cubs, and Cardinals flounder behind them. Most teams are struggling through some levels of injuries to their starting nines, but no team is immune to that. The Phillies are still in last, but Lefty O'Doul and Chuck Klein suddenly sparked back to life this week and they are a dangerous combo in the middle of that Phillies lineup. Week 9 Results (06/09/1930 - 06/15/1930)

Monday, June 9, 1930 Philadelphia (AL) 9 Chicago (AL) (H) 6 For a game that was tied 2-2 after seven innings, this one turned out to be quite a barn burner. The A's finally broke it open with three in the eighth, and then added four more in the ninth. That came in handy when the first six White Sox batters in the bottom of the ninth got hits off reliever Jack Quinn . Lefty Grove was called upon to close this one out with his second save of the season. Washington 7 Cleveland (H) 2 Another game where it was tied 2-2 after seven innings and then the visiting team blew it wide open. This time the Nationals plated four runs in the eighth to salt away the victory. Ossie Bluege's two-run single was the big hit of the big inning. Note: Nationals starter Firpo Marberry was pulled from the game in the fourth inning due to injury.
