Week 2 Recap

Week 2 is in the books and the replay continues to be quite exciting. You never know when it is going to happen, but while some games are low-scoring some just seem to otherwise explode with offense. There are late-inning heroics, complete meltdowns, and of all things, a perfect game by Vic Sorrell.

 The Tigers and the Nationals are the surprises in the AL. Neither New York or Philadelphia can keep a streak going, but both teams figure to be in it until the end. Babe Ruth has five homeruns and eighteen RBI's through eight games, and Heinie Manush is still hitting over .500 (.528) for the Browns.

 The Cardinals offense has been the big story in the NL so far with 97 runs scored in 12 games. There are six Cardinals in the top seven for runs scored in the league. Despite that, it is the Brooklyn Robins who reside in first place with the best record in baseball based on a stellar 1.63 ERA. Riggs Stephenson of the Cubs is leading with a .450 BA, and Chick Hafey leads in doubles (6), homeruns (4) and RBI's (19).

 In looking at my numbers projections below, I can see that I need to bump up my stolen base attempts, although my success percentage is still very poor. I am pretty close when it comes to complete games, but I still over-worry about abusing saves - maybe I can relax a little. I don't know if I will come close to the number of errors committed either. Regardless, it's only two weeks into the season, and a lot of these numbers will come around.

The 1930 Philadelphia A's were a little slow out of the chute in the regular season but they got going before mid-season and they easily rolled to the American League pennant. The 1930 St. Louis Cardinals were in a bit more of a dogfight in the National League, but they got healthy late and got hot with a month to go in the season and roared down the stretch to capture the NL pennant. These two teams were clearly the best in their respective leagues and now it was time for the fall classic. No multiple rounds of playoffs, just the two best teams going at it, and getting started quickly. The last day of the regular season was on a Sunday, the first game of the World Series coming on a Wednesday. Introduction

I am going to do a replay of the 1930 baseball season using APBA Baseball for Windows . If you are reading this I am assuming you are familiar with the APBA baseball game, the concept of doing a full season replay, and baseball in general. If not, suffice it to say that, yes, I am going to replay an entire baseball season from 85+ years ago. APBA Logo I know that Google , like Facebook , has kind of queered itself in the marketplace with its misplaced privacy policies and its decisions to become involved in the filth of politics in general. However, I have used Blogger previously, am familiar with its quirks and foibles, and at free I can't beat the price, so I am going to stick here for now. There will likely be tweaks made to the blog layout, especially at the beginning, and as I figure what I think works best. 1930 AL and NL League Leaders (Updated)

Update: I must admit I really hadn't given much thought to pinch-hit homeruns, no-hitters, or hutting for the cycle when I started this, but they were events that occurred and were worth noting. And of course, I then neglected to include them in my initial publishing, so here they are:
