Week 10 Recap

Week 10 is completed and the replay charges ahead. Every team has moved past the 50 game mark, and several have touched 60 already, so the half-way point draws near. Washington had seen their lead dwindle down to 1.5 games at the end of last week, but thanks to the Indians winning three in a row from the second place A's have seen their lead expand back up to 4.5 games. Washington has made several trades recently and it is still too early to see if they will really pay off. Boston continues to flirt with .500 and has currently moved into the top half of the American League, just behind the Yankees, who can really hit, but just can't get on a winning streak. Cleveland might be on the come finally and has Chicago and St. Louis clearly in their sites. Brooklyn had a down week last week but has righted the ship this week and is currently on a four-game win streak. Chicago has won eight in a row though and has definitely dug into Brooklyn's lead. St. Louis and New York are

Week 10 Results (06/16/1930 - 06/22/1930)

Monday, June 16, 1930 Chicago (AL) (H) 2 Boston (AL) 0 The Red Sox had visions of actually getting over .500, but Ted Lyons (7-6) and the White Sox had other ideas. Willie Kamm hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh and Lyons took it home from there. Philadelphia (AL) 15 Detroit (H) 5 The A's led 3-2 after two, and then they started to score, and score, and score. George Earnshaw (5-3) was the recipient of this largess, although Earnshaw contributed with a 3-for-4 day and scored two runs. Right fielder Bing Miller went 5-for-5 along with three RBI's and a double. St. Louis (AL) (H) 6 Washington 1 Shortstop Red Kress hit a two-run homerun in the fourth to give Lefty Stewart (9-3) and quick lead, and then the Browns added three more in the fifth, and Stewart did the rest. After having a batting average in the .130's a month ago Brown's first baseman Lu Blue is now up to a robust (?) .191. Note: Second baseman Buddy Mye

Week 9 Recap

Another week of outstanding performances, mixed in with several examples of relief problems with plenty of late and extra innings heroes and goats. Two trades took place this week, and one a huge one - Heinie Manush and General Crowder going from St. Louis (AL) to Washington for Goose Goslin . There are several trades cued up for next week as well as teams make adjustments as they preprare to enter the final two-thirds of the season. Heinie Manush Brooklyn finally had a week where they lost more than they won, but they still maintain a healthy lead while they watch the Giants, Cubs, and Cardinals flounder behind them. Most teams are struggling through some levels of injuries to their starting nines, but no team is immune to that. The Phillies are still in last, but Lefty O'Doul and Chuck Klein suddenly sparked back to life this week and they are a dangerous combo in the middle of that Phillies lineup. In the AL Washington is still in first place, but they can definitely

Week 9 Results (06/09/1930 - 06/15/1930)

Monday, June 9, 1930 Philadelphia (AL) 9 Chicago (AL) (H) 6 For a game that was tied 2-2 after seven innings, this one turned out to be quite a barn burner. The A's finally broke it open with three in the eighth, and then added four more in the ninth. That came in handy when the first six White Sox batters in the bottom of the ninth got hits off reliever Jack Quinn . Lefty Grove was called upon to close this one out with his second save of the season. Washington 7 Cleveland (H) 2 Another game where it was tied 2-2 after seven innings and then the visiting team blew it wide open. This time the Nationals plated four runs in the eighth to salt away the victory. Ossie Bluege's two-run single was the big hit of the big inning. Note: Nationals starter Firpo Marberry was pulled from the game in the fourth inning due to injury. Note: This is the game where Indians catcher Luke Sewell broke his finger and will miss the next month and a half. Detroi
