Week 5 Recap

The Brooklyn Robins have now won 13 consecutive victories, meaning they haven't lost since the first game of their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 4 (Week 3). On their western swing, the Robins split four with the Cardinals, took all three versus Chicago, four versus Pittsburgh, and two versus Cincinnati, and then came back east to take three in Philadelphia, a nice little 14-2 road trip heading into Week 6. In the American League, the eastern teams really fattened up when the western teams came to visit. Washington, Philadelphia and New York all sit atop the standings and look to be prepared to slug it out for the remainder of the season. Looking at the AL leaderboards, it's almost all Babe Ruth all the time. Ruth leads in average (.426) (The only remaining AL player hitting over .400), homeruns (13), RBI's (45), and tied for first in runs with teammate Earle Combs (36). Bill Regan leads in doubles (12), and Charlie Gehringer leads in

Week 5 Results (05/12/1930 - 05/18/1930)

Monday, May 12, 1930 St. Louis (AL) 7 Boston (AL) (H) 1 The Browns blew it open when they scored five times in the sixth, four of the runs being unearned. Heinie Manush has cooled off quite a bit from his torrid start, but a two-run Manush triple was the big blow today. Rip Collins made his first start of the season and went all the way for the easy victory. New York (AL) (H) 14 Detroit 0 Three Yankee pitchers limited the Tigers to only two hits, and the Tigers further committed to their own woes with four errors, meaning seven of the fourteen runs allowed were unearned. Tigers shortstop Yats Wuestling committed an error on consecutive plays in the third and the rout was on. The Tigers have used Billy Rogell , Bill Akers , and now Wuestling at shortstop so far with not much to show for it. On the Yankee side, Lyn Lary replaced Mark Koenig a t shortstop this past weekend and the Yankees are hoping to get a little more production at that position. Oh, and yes, Bab

Week 4 Recap

Week 4 is in the books and the replay is progressing nicely. The use of the ATMgr to complete daily transactions and to load the proper lineups for every game is a real time saver. It might have taken a few extra weeks to get this set-up from the beginning, but it was certainly worth it. All the teams have at least twenty games played at this point, although some just played their twentieth, while Detroit, for instance, has 26 games played already, so there is still some disparity to be made up. There will be a flurry of trades coming up, and well as double-headers to start accounting for the early season weather issues, so there is still a lot of baseball yet to be played. In the AL the eastern powers have started to assert themselves during their western swing, with the A's and the Yankees moving up to second and third in the standings. Washington still sits on top of the AL, with their league-leading 2.58 ERA and tenacious never-say-die offense making the difference. The N

Week 4 Results (05/05/1930 - 05/11/1930)

Monday, May 5, 1930 Boston (AL) (H) 10 Cleveland 0 Cleveland's scoring woes continue as Milt Gaston went all the way for the complete game shutout victory. Gaston picked up two hits as well. Boston First baseman Phil Todt hit two doubles and a homerun and drove in five runs to lead the Red Sox offense. New York (AL) (H) 6 Chicago (AL) 5 Lefty Gomez made his ML debut as a starter today and promptly gave up three runs in the top of the first to the visiting White Sox. Gomez settled down after that, and eventually, the Yankees got to Red Faber , scoring five in the bottom of the seventh to recapture the lead. The big hit was a Babe Ruth bases-loaded double - Ruth now has 30 RBI's for the season. Philadelphia (AL) (H) 7 St. Louis (AL) 2 Lefty Grove went all the way, scattering three hits for the easy win, and hit homerun himself to help his own cause. Al Simmons hit a two-run homerun for the A's, and A's third baseman Jimmy Dykes picked
