No perfect games this week, but every game continues to exciting, with many going down to the final pitch. It has only been three weeks so far and I do expect things will correct themselves with time, but for the moment the standings are pretty much topsy-turvy.
In the American League, both Washington in first and the A's below .500 are a surprise, but the real surprise at this point is that the White Sox have clawed their way into second place. They do have the worst ERA in the AL, so I don't expect this hot streak to be maintained. Detroit is hanging in there, but both the Yankees and the A's are starting to play better - it just may be that they are starting to play teams from the western half of the league.
In the National League, Brooklyn and St. Louis continue to dominate, but the Cubs have finally pulled themselves over the .500 mark. They are going to have to improve that ERA of 6.29 to stay competitive though. The Giants are hitting over .300, but are last in ERA with a 6.50 mark. The NL is hitting .301 as a league (.303 actual)
Heinie Manush is batting .492 after 16 games for the Browns, but there are four other AL players still over .400 as well. In almost every other category Babe Ruth's name appears: Walks (14), Homeruns (7), Runs (21), RBI's (27), triples (4), and almost all of the calculated stats (OBP, RC, etc.). Lou Gehrig has crept up there with 23 RBI's, but there are five Yankees hitting over .350 at this point, so there is almost always somebody on base for Ruth and Gehrig.
In the National League Lefty O'Doul leads in batting average with a .479 average. Including O'Doul there are nine NL players still batting over .400. Chick Hafey has cooled down a little from his hot start, but he still leads in runs (20), RBI's (25), Doubles (9), and homeruns (5). Hafey is currently in the middle of a 15 game hitting streak. Wally Berger also has five homeruns, and Chuck Klein has driven in 21 runs for the Phillies to go with his three home runs.
I do want to post league leaders and team stats, but extracting data from the game and being able to present it in a viewable format here in the blog is going to be an extremely manual process. I don't have the option of including an attachment, so I may just have to bite the bullet and set-up some kind of rotation, AL teams one week, NL the next, AL Leaders, and the NL Leaders, and so on.
Other than that, the replay is going well. ATMgr is a godsend for this kind of replay, every game is exciting, and I am pleased with the results. I will be out of town this coming week for a business conference, but I will pick things back up when I return.
